Choosing a Pest Professional

There are several reasons for contacting a professional for your pest problems. Sometimes, the best way to manage an infestation is to get an expert involved so that you can get relief. To help you choose wisely, here is a checklist of important factors to consider when choosing a pest control company:

Is the company local? Does the company get involved with the communities they serve?
Ask your neighbors, family, and friends. They can refer you to a company from whom they have received excellent service.
Is the company a member in good standing of the Oregon Pest Control Association and the National Pest Management Association? Do they actively participate in continuing education, attend meetings, and adhere to the code of ethics?
Look for the QualityPro logo. QualityPro companies are required to maintain specific high standards (see sidebar).
Is the company representative professional in appearance? Is their vehicle clean and well equipped?
Can the company representative answer your questions? If not, are they willing to research for you to find the necessary information?
Inquire as to how long the company has been in business. Also, feel free to ask the individual how long they have been with the company.
Check the Oregon Department of Justice/Consumer Division by calling their toll free number 1-877-877-9392. They can inform you about any complaints that have been filed about a company of interest.
Contact the Oregon Department of Agriculture at 1-503-986-4635 to be sure the company is fully licensed, insured, and free from violations.
